How to choose the material for gear pump housing, ductile iron or aluminum alloy ?

Generally, there are more aluminum alloy gear pumps with small flowing. Most of the vane pumps and plunger pumps are cast iron housing.

The aluminum housing is good for heat dissipation, convenient processing, low cost, and light weight, but the work pressure should not be too high, usually below 16 MPa.

The pressure of the iron housing is higher, which can reach 20 MPa. The specially designed can reach 24 MPa, but the price is 2-4 times that of aluminum housing. The vane pump cannot be used by aluminum housing. The blades inside the vane pump slide directly on the surface of the housing. The aluminum is too soft and not wear -resistant. The cast iron housing must be used.
